Jack Soebel was an engineer with Boeing and was looking forward to retirement. When he started looking at his healthcare options he found out that Boeing offers its retirees a group Medicare plan. It made logical sense to Jack that since he had been on Boeing’s health insurance for the past 35 years he would continue and go onto its group Medicare plan.
Jack met with his financial advisor to finalize his retirement plans and his advisor asked an important question: “Have you looked at your Medicare options to cover your healthcare needs?” Jack replied, “Boeing has a group Medicare plan and I’ll just enroll in that plan.” The advisor suggested that Jack meet with our company Simply Senior Solutions to further educate himself about Medicare and other options that may be available to him.
When we first met with Jack he showed us the group Medicare options offered by Boeing. We asked Jack questions to better understand his healthcare needs in retirement. We explained to him how Medicare works, what it covers, and more importantly what it does not cover. We analyzed Jack’s healthcare needs against all available Medicare options including the Boeing plan. We were able to narrow Jack’s Medicare options down to two solutions that would best protect his healthcare needs.
When we met with Jack again we showed him the two solutions and compared them to Boeing’s options. We found it interesting that Boeing offered almost identical Medicare plans as our analysis showed but with substantially higher premiums. Jack decided to go with one of our solutions and thus save nearly $400 per month without sacrificing any health benefits. Just imagine what he can do with an extra $400 per month in retirement!
